Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church
Live From Fort Worth: 12:45 a.m. (CST)
May 1, 2008
Delegates rejected changes to the United Methodist Social Principles that would have acknowledged that church members disagree on homosexuality, and instead voted to retain language describing homosexual practice as “incompatible with Christian teaching.”
You can read about all the homosexuality-related legislation that was voted down on Wednesday -- and the emotional response to these actions - -- in this UMNS report.
This Wednesday wrap-up report will give you a broader view of the day's activities as well as details on other decisions. For instance, the General Conference also let stand language in the Book of Discipline regarding pastoral authority over church membership.
I'll be back later in the morning. Be sure to check out all the UMNS coverage at gc2008.umc.org and our Holston coverage at gc2008.holston.org.
In the meantime, here's a photo of a Holston native who was spotted on the stage among the other bishops. She smiled for Holston Conference when she saw The Call's camera aimed in her direction.
