UMVIM TEAM LEADER TRAINING

Saturday, November 4,2017 - more info here
10am - 3pm

2017 UMVIM Teams list is now available!

OUR MISSION
United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) enables individuals, local churches, districts, and the annual conference to be directly involved in missions by sending short-term volunteers and financial support to projects at specific locations in a mission area from which an invitation has been received. The purpose of UMVIM teams is to share faith in Jesus Christ through the use of individual skills and gifts as God's ambassadors to the world, sharing God's ministry of reconciliation.

TYPES OF MISSIONS
Typically, if you can dream it, you can do it in missions!
Some types of teams include (but are not limited to):

  • Construction
  • Bible School
  • Medical Teams
  • Evangelism and Outreach
  • Social/Community Ministries
  • Sports Ministry

WHO MAY PARTICIPATE
Anyone who has committed his/her life to Christ, is in good standing in his/her local church, and is willing to use his/her skills, talents, time, and financial resources to share "the whole gospel with the whole person."

Although specific costs may vary, team members must be willing to secure their own funding for an UMVIM trip.

ORGANIZING A TEAM
Local churches, districts, and/or other groups with conference affiliation may sponsor an UMVIM team. The sponsoring group assumes full responsibility for recruitment and selection of team members and the financial support for team and project expenses.

Team leaders who are planning a mission trip are encouraged to

  • Get trained as an UMVIM team leader.
  • Ensure compliance with Safe Sanctuaries policy.
  • Register with the Southeastern Jurisdictional (SEJ) UMVIM as an UMVIM team.
  • Ensure adequate medical insurance for the team.

Registration with the SEJ is now online only; insurance through SEJ also includes medical evacuation, which is recommended for international trips.

Guidance in organizing, training, and planning mission trips is available through the Conference Coordinator for Missions or the Conference UMVIM Coordinator.

UMVIM TEAM LEADER TRAINING
Providing good team leadership is essential to a successful mission trip and begins with UMVIM training. Several training events are offered throughout the year and will be publicized on the Holston Conference website.
