Advocacy | How To Advocate

Are you interested in being an advocate for a social justice issue? You can take the following steps:

  1. Call your US Senator or Representative. Use this website for contact information - http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm
  2. Call your state legislators. To help you find your two state legislators and their phone numbers for:
    Tennessee go to www.legislature.state.tn.us
    Virginiahttp://dela.state.va.us/dela/MemBios.nsf/MWebsiteTL?OpenView
    GeorgiaSenatehttp://www.senate.ga.gov/senators/en-US/SenateMembersList.aspx
    Georgia House of Representatives http://www.house.ga.gov/Representatives/en-US/HouseMembersList.aspx
  3. You can also send an e-mail all 132 state legislators or you can e-mail a letter to just your State Senator and State Representative. Generally speaking, phone calls are more effective than e-mail messages.
  4. Write letters to the editor. Write letters to the editor of your local newspaper. Be sure to include your name, address and phone number with every letter. To obtain the “Letters to the Editor” information for your local newspaper, please check one of the following:
