Recycling at Trentville UMC
October 3, 2007
We, at Trentville UMC, in Strawberry Plains, Tenn., have
recently started a recycling program through our youth
ministry. The first program consists of recycling old, unused cell
phones. The toxins and chemicals which are used in the circuitry
boards and screens of the electronics contribute to environmental
pollution in our landfills and water tables. We have located a company
which will dismantle and reuse the electronics for other products.
The second program is the removal of "junk" vehicles from our
community. There are lots of these types of vehicles sitting in fields
and properties around East Tennessee. The parent of one of
our youth studentshas agreed to pick up the vehicle and take it
to our local recycler. All it takes for a donor to get a vehicle
removed from their property is one phone call made to me or to the
church. That's it!
The recyclers will pay money for some of our donations but regardless
of the monetary value, our earth is priceless and worth all of our
conservation efforts!
