Carbon neutral at Emory & Henry College
December 3, 2007
Emory & Henry College President Rosalind Reichard signed an agreement on Sept. 7 that commits the College to becoming "carbon neutral" as part of a national campaign among college presidents that addresses the major global environmental challenge of climate warming.
Reichard
signed the agreement that has also been signed by some 360 colleges and
universities across the nation. The agreement, encourged by national
environmental organizations, is intended to "bring the influence of
higher education to bear on solving the problems of global warming,"
Reichard said.
Under the agreement, Emory & Henry will conduct an inventory of its
greenhouse gas emissions and within the next two years develop a plan
that will seek to reduce or offset these emissions with environmentally
safer practices.
