Smaritan's Purse Shoeboxes to be Blessed
December 3, 2009
Samaritan’s Purse Shoeboxes to be Blessed Sunday at FUMC, Hillsville - Sunday, December 13 will be Shoebox Blessing Sunday at First United Methodist Church, Hillsville. Shoeboxes prepared for the Samaritan’s Purse Project will be blessed at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services. Each year FUMC’s congregation prepares shoeboxes for needy children in other countries as part of the Samaritan’s Purse Project.
Patti Holderfield is the FUMC Shoebox Project Coordinator. She says, “We have been involved for ten years now and folks get more involved every year. Last year we were able to help transport over 900 boxes from Carroll County which included sister churches, civic organizations, students at CCIS and Woodlawn Schools. Small children are packing boxes and our shut-ins are faithfully praying as well.” She continued, “Folks can learn more by visiting Samaritanspurse.org or calling me at 276-236-7812.”
Volunteers from FUMC will travel to the Charlotte, NC distribution center on Wednesday, December 15 to help with packing boxes for shipping.
It is expected that 9 million boxes will be collected nationally this year reaching 100 different countries with the Gospel in 30 different languages.
Adrienne Dunevant will provide special music for the First Light Service at 8:30 a.m. She is a member of the Choir Partners Choir and will be singing “Happy Birthday, Jesus”.
Pastor Ty Harrison will be preaching from Luke 3:7-18 at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services. His sermon is entitled “Timber!”.
