District Superintendent
Rev. Dr. Doug Fairbanks, Jr.
Dr. Fairbanks has been the District Superintendent of the Knoxville District since July 2006. Before coming to the Knoxville District he served as the Senior Pastor of Signal Crest UMC in the Chattanooga District for five years. Dr. Fairbanks has been in the pastorl/preaching ministry for 38 years and married to Carolyn Brown Fairbanks for 39 years.
Originally from Chattanooga, Dr. Fairbanks started his ministry in the Holston Conference and then transferred his membership to the Western North Carolina Confernce for several years. In 2001 he felt the call to "come home to Holston" and returned to the Holston Conference to serve.
Dr. Fairbanks received his academic degrees from the University of Tennessee, Master of Divinity from Interdenominational Theological Center/Gammon Theological Seminary, Atlanta, GA and Doctorate of Minstry from Graduate Theological Foundation, South Bend, Indiana.
Currently Dr. Fairbanks serves on the Board of Trustees for Hiwassee College and Gammon Theological Seminary and is the Holston Cabinet representative for our Council of Finance and Administration.
Administrative Assistant Mary Hawkins Mary has been with the District since January 2004. She is married to Gregg Hawkins and lives in Kodak, TN. where they are both active in their church Kodak UMC.
Originally from Maryville, TN Mary received an AA degree in Music from Hiwassee College and her Bachelor Degree in Church Music from Maryville College.
Before working for the District Mary worked for Levi Strauss & Co. in the Knoxville Regional office for 13 years as an administrative assitant.

There are 55 churches in the Knoxville District. The District is currently served by 64pastors compiled of Elders, Deacons, and Local Pastors. There are approximately 23,500 members of the United Methodist Church within the Knoxville District.
