Housing Scams

July 23, 2009

I was watching the news tonight and was made more keenly aware of how people take advantage of others during difficult and hard times. There are people out there that are using the fact that many hard working and honest people are either losing their homes or on the brink of foreclosure. They either send email messages, snail mail or call via the telephone and promise relief from their mortgage payments for money upfront. The snail mail comes in an envelope that makes it look like they are sending this from a governmental organization. It is a awful thing to be so greedy for money that you take advantage of the people who are just trying to make ends meet. The wise writer of Proverbs said it this way. "If you mistreat the poor, you insult your Creator..." I have often heard debates within the Church where many have said, “This is a justice issue." Well for people take advantage of those who are caught in this economic crisis and scam them is definitely a justice issue and I believe that the Church should raise our voice about this action.
