John Wesley on holistic mission
August 8, 2008
Here is another book recommendation: "A Year with John Wesley and Our Methodist Values," by Michael J. Coyner, Henry H. Knight III, Sarah Heaner Lancaster, and Randy L. Maddox.
This book takes you through a full year of study and reflection on Wesleyan theology, polity, and practice. It asks questions that solicit deep reflection for the serious student, and yet, it is an easy read. You can use this as a devotional resource or as a learning instrument.
One example of the way this booklet challenges us in seen in Randy Maddox's challenge to us: "Get get 'the United Methodist Way' into our very bones. Do we act, live, and breathe our faith? Do we know what we believe? Can the people in our churches describe who we are as United Methodist, and can they have conversation with others about our traditions, patterns, and practices of ministry?"
I highly recommend this one year journey with John Wesley.
